Description

REW STREET FARM COTTAGE Rew Street Farm Cottage is a Grade II Listed property that dates back to the 16th C and is believed to be one of only two cruck frame house remaining on the the on the Island.

A split stable door opens to a warm and welcoming reception hall, with flagstone floor and a glimpse of the fabulous drawing room with exposed beams and impressive fireplace.

The welcoming reception hall is currently used for informal dining and is open to the kitchen, and gives access to the dining room, garden room, drawing room, sitting room and stairs to first floor.

Flagstone flooring continues to the kitchen where there is a range of built in wall and floor units with work surface over and inset sink unit. There's space for oven, dishwasher and fridge/freezer. The window overlooks the pretty courtyard to the front.

The formal dining room is a good sized room with low ceiling and access to the garden room.

Without doubt heart of the cottage is the fabulous drawing room with vaulted ceiling, flagstone floor, exposed beams and large brick fireplace housing a wood burning stove with original bread oven.

There's a shower and utility off this room that comprises a shower cubicle, W.C and wash hand basin. The utility has a butler sink, work surface and space for washing machine and dryer.

A couple of steps down take you to the living room which is a well-proportioned and relaxing room with sash window with original shutters overlooking the front courtyard. Character features include and exposed brick and timber wall and solid multi fuel stove.

Finally on the ground floor is the timber frame garden room which is a great built addition to the home and can be accessed from the main reception area or dining room and overlooks the outside dining area.

FIRST FLOOR

A galleried landing overlooks the drawing room and offers a peaceful spot to relax away from the rest of a busy house. Most of the bedrooms (3 doubles, 1 single) offer Solent glimpses and there are two bathrooms (with showers over) to service sleeping accommodation.

OUTSIDE

A surprisingly good sized south facing garden is to the rear of the property with a range of trees and shrubs and gated access onto Rew Street. There's a couple of really useful garden rooms with power and lighting that would make for an excellent office and studio. Between the Farmhouse and cottage is a shared courtyard providing space for log storage.

Off the garden room is a courtyard garden with mature Jasmine climbing along the stone wall. This south facing area is a great space to entertaining, as indeed is the whole cottage!

To the front of the cottage is a small enclosed private garden and beyond the shared driveway is a parking area for two cars.

SERVICES

Mains water, electricity, and gas. Private drainage (shared with the farmhouse).

WHAT THE OWNERS SAY... We were looking for a holiday home in the Isle of Wight. Living in London we wanted somewhere we could get to on a Friday night from the office and be at in time to have a drink before supper, leave early on a Monday morning and still make it into the office by 0900.

We wanted to live somewhere that was welcoming and warm but with lots of things to do for our young (at the time) boys.

The Island has something for everyone on and off the water, whatever the weather, and, for our purposes we realised that Cowes and Gurnard offered the most for our family in terms of location and community both in the winter and summer. Living mostly at the time in a city we wanted to be somewhere in the countryside but with easy access to Cowes and a social life. The location of the Cottage is perfect.

We walked into the Cottage instantly felt like being given a hug. It was built in 1600 and is the original farm house and is believed to be one of only two cruck frame houses on the island. The walls, floors and fireplace and beams all add to charm of the building but it is the feeling you get inside that is hard to describe. It feels like this house has seen nothing but warmth and happiness and this has certainly been our experience here. We have had brilliant family holidays and parties and have enjoyed every minute. In more recent times we have decided to make the Island our permanent home, and as such, just need more space for our now giant teenage boys and enormous dog. It will be a very very hard home to leave and we just hope the next people to be lucky enough to live here get as much pleasure from it as we have.
